Calls To Kill TrumpCare (Again)

Normally, talking on the phone is not my thing. And I had enough of cold calling to last forever in my brief time in sales in the late 70s. 

Add politics to the mix, and I have an even greater aversion. 

But these are not normal times. And so, as a member of Indivisible Walla Walla, I nervously agreed to participate in today's phone bank calling peers in other states to encourage them to call their senators asking them to vote NO on the Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill.

Using the website https://www.trumpcareten.org/ and hubdialer, the team made calls to registered voters in Alaska, Arizona and Colorado. 

Despite a few hang ups and one "F-you," most of the voters I spoke with were friendly, and many had already contacted their senator. But the funny thing is, the more calls I made, the easier it became. That said, I don't see working in a call center anytime soon.

Fans of Batman came in all ages, sizes, and genders to hear Allen Pomraning, the mayor of Walla Walla, 

proclaim September 19 as Adam West Day, not only for today but in perpetuity.

Mayor Allen Pomraning gives the official proclamation naming September 19 as Adam West Day.

As representative of the City of Walla Walla, the mayor also presented the family with a street sign like the one mounted on Alvarado Terrace.

Celebrating Adam West

Part 1 of 2

William West Anderson, later known as Adam West of TV's Batman fame, grew up in Walla Walla, Washington in a house just two streets over from where I live now. He went to school here attending Walla Walla High School through his sophomore year before moving to Seattle when his parents divorced. Upon graduation from Lakeside School, he returned to Walla Walla to attend and graduate from Whitman College. After being drafted and serving in the military, he moved to Hawaii and then to Hollywood where he took the stage name of Adam West. 

Adam West died on June 9 of this year.

As a remembrance and celebration of his roots in Walla Walla, Jonathan Grant along with a host of others organized Adam West Day on September 19, the anniversary of West's birth. 

Before the official public celebration began downtown, West's extended family were treated to a tour of Walla Walla including his childhood home and the street where he lived where they unveiled the new street sign in honor of West.

WALLA WALLA CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

Lisa BROWN for Congress

On Sunday, September 17, former Washington state Majority Leader Lisa Brown met with supporters in an informal meet and greet in Walla Walla. Brown, a democrat, is challenging Cathy McMorris Rodgers for her District 5 eastern Washington seat.  

If you've been following this blog, you know that McMoRo, as is her shorthand moniker, is not universally liked in Walla Walla or throughout  District 5. That said, Brown will have a challenge in this eastern Washington district which hasn't been represented by a Democrat since the mid-90s. McMoRo is currently the highest ranking woman in the House Republican leadership.

But Lisa BROWN is up for the challenge.
